The paper presents some advanced techniques in remote measurements and control. The market for wireless embedded networks for residential and commercial building automation, industrial plant monitoring and other sensing and control applications is expected to show explosive growth during the coming years. IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee are the only radio standards that specifically address the requirements of wireless monitoring and control systems. Communication technology evolution stayed close to the hardware, hardware that gives support for new modulation schemes, allowing the integration of complicated transceivers in a single chip or together with the microprocessor. The system that is presented below consists in use of two techniques: modems for power lines and ZigBee technology. The arrangement results in reducing the implementation costs and system flexibility.
